"Political theatre" is a term that has been used to refer to three different things: theatre that comments on political issues, political action or protest that has a theatrical quality to it, and any action by politicians that is intended to make a point rather than accomplish something substantive.     -source from wiki

 lesson 1

in this lesson we learnt about verfremdungseffekt and Bertolt brecht who was a practitioner and playwright he uses different techniques under the v effect. Verfremdungseffekt, commonly referred to as the V effect or Alienation Effect, is a term Brecht used to describe the actor's technique employ in creating characters in Epic Theatre. Verfremdungseffekt is often erroneously referred to as an “alienation effect”. we talked about how we wanted the audience to question what there watching, and do exaggerated gestures in order to draw attention

lesson 2

in this lesson we learnt more about Bracht a did some exercise such a, we did an exercise were we said hi with simple gesture and we took it to biggest it could possibly be walking around the room, we learnt that actors in Bracht productions will play 3-4 characters and when you create your character you will probably be thinking of the wealth of your character, and we were talking about how you had to be able to switch character quickly and you would get changed in front of the audience into the jacket and hat etc, we also did an exercise were were had to walk around the room with partners one as the old man and one as the old women moving with different parts of our body, we also did this playing a pregnant lady leading with the belly then adding a gesture and emotion.

lesson 3

in this lesson we got put into groups for our political protest and i was in a group with Ed, Ernesto, Jamilah and will.

lesson 4

this was our political protests

lesson 5

rehearsing for our final performance

evaluation of performance

overall i think the performance went really well as in rehearsal it was looking kinda rough but on the night we pulled it of as everyone remembered there lines and if they didn't the audience didnt notices
political protest evaluation

Overall I am happy with our protest which was about domestic violence towards men the was some strong points and weak points in the piece for example i think the space we used wasn't really that good because there wasn't really many people how walked by until the end of break, so we couldnt react with the audience as much as we wanted to, but the strong points of the protest was really effective for example when Will and Jamilla where acting where they were showing domestic violence towards each other, this was good because it got the audience entertained.

From fast-rising Channel 4 Playwrights’ Scheme winner Clara
Brennan, comes a hilarious, pan-generational and heartbreaking
call to arms for our modern age.

Spine charts the explosive friendship between a ferocious, wise-
cracking teenager and an elderly East End widow. Mischievous
activist pensioner Glenda is hell-bent on leaving a political legacy
and saving Amy from the Tory scrapheap because ‘there’s nothing
more terrifying than a teenager with something to say’.
In this era of damaging coalition cuts and disillusionment, has
politics forgotten people? Can we really take the power back?
Amy is about to be forced to find out.

Brecht

Bertolt-Brecht.jpg

Bertolt Brecht born Eugen Berthold Friedrich Brecht 10 February 1898 – 14 August 1956 was a German poetplaywright, and theatre director of the 20th century. He made contributions to dramaturgy and theatrical production, the latter through the tours undertaken by the Berliner Ensemble – the post-war theatre company operated by Brecht and his wife, long-time collaborator and actress Helene WeigelFrom his late twenties Brecht remained a lifelong committed Marxist who, in developing the combined theory and practice of his "epic theatre", synthesized and extended the experiments of Erwin Piscator and Vsevolod Meyerhold to explore the theatre as a forum for political ideas and the creation of a critical aesthetics of dialectical materialism.
